FRB's Moish E. Peltz was quoted in a Law.com article discussing the ongoing legal dispute between Brave Software and News Corp over the use of copyrighted material in the AI-powered blockchain enabled search engine, raising questions about the intersection of AI, copyright, cryptocurrency, and search engine practices. The article covers Brave's legal efforts to seek a declaratory judgment of non-infringement in response to a cease-and-desist letter sent by News Corp. Brave, a privacy-focused search engine, uses a cryptocurrency token, the Basic Attention Token (BAT), to monetize its platform, but News Corp took issue with it ingesting its content.

In the article, Moish provided insights into Brave’s business model, stating, “Brave incentivizes users to use the browser in a certain way in place of the monetization models that Google and Bing would use, which are almost very reliant on the average paid advertising model.” He went on to explain, “Brave is, perhaps, a pretty good example of someone trying to use a crypto token to do something unique and to try and disrupt a business model like the search business model by using a token.”

The article also features comments from Professor Ed Lee of Santa Clara Law, who was recently interviewed by Moish and FRB Partner Kyle M. Lawrence on their podcast Block & Order in an episode titled "Creators Take Control: Professor Ed Lee on the Evolving Digital Asset Market," where they explore the regulation of NFTs, intellectual property in the web3 world, and challenges AI-generated works face in terms of copyright protection.
