FRB Partner James M. Black II Appointed Vice Chair of the New York State Bar Association Committee on Attorney Professionalism
Falcon Rappaport & Berkman is pleased to announce that James “Jim” M. Black II, has been appointed Vice Chair of the New York State Bar Association Committee on Attorney Professionalism.
The Committee on Attorney Professionalism works to encourage civility toward adversaries, officials, colleagues, clients, and others, while fostering integrity, decency, and client service within the legal profession.
Jim is a member of Falcon Rappaport & Berkman’s Corporate and Securities Practice Group. He brings more than 35 years of experience in corporate and government compliance, government contracts, trade regulation, and information technology. His career has included significant in-house legal and compliance roles with Northrop Grumman’s Data and Information Division, CA Technologies, and Overseas Military Sales Group. Immediately prior to joining FRB, Jim was a partner at Silverman Acampora, where he led the firm’s Government Contracts and Compliance Group.
“I have had the privilege of being a member of CAP for several years, and it is an honor to step into the role of Vice Chair alongside my friend and colleague Drew Oringer, who will serve as Committee Chair this year,” said Jim. “The Committee does important work setting the standards for attorney conduct in New York State. I look forward to taking on my new role as we advance the important ethical issues facing the Committee and our profession.”
Throughout his practice, Jim has advised government contractors and corporate clients on compliance programs, export protocols, bid and proposal processes, government contract negotiations, Codes of Conduct, internal investigations, and compliance training. His experience also includes matters involving privacy, the EU General Data Protection Regulation, the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, and government acquisition and trade rules and regulations.
Jim is also deeply involved in legal education and professional service. He is an adjunct professor at the Maurice A. Deane School of Law at Hofstra University, where he teaches Corporate Compliance and Ethics, and has served as a visiting professor at the Naval Postgraduate School, where he taught government contracts. He is a member of the American Bar Association, the New York State Bar Association, and the Nassau County Bar Association Ethics Committee.
Jim earned his Juris Doctor from the Maurice A. Deane School of Law at Hofstra University and his Bachelor of Arts in History from Hofstra University. He is admitted to practice in New York and Connecticut, as well as before the United States District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York and the United States Supreme Court.
