Professional Experience

William J. Barber, Jr. is Sr. Counsel within the Trusts and Estates practice groups.  For the last 9 years, Mr. Barber operated a private office representing clients in Surrogate’s Courts throughout the metropolitan area and focuses on matters involving estate litigation, such as probate contests, contested accountings, guardianship, discovery and turnover proceedings, and removal proceedings. Mr. Barber’s litigation practice includes overseeing pretrial discovery, legal research, motion practice, and participating in settlement and mediation negotiations.

Mr. Barber also practices within the areas of estate planning and trust and estate administration. He advises clients on business succession planning, wealth preservation and estate and gift tax planning, which helps them achieve their estate planning objectives through the preparation of wills, revocable and irrevocable trust instruments, and advance directives.  In addition to maintaining a private office, Mr. Barber worked Of-Counsel to the Barton Law Group supervising the estate administration department.

Additionally, Mr. Barber assists clients with Elder Law matters. A true passion for Mr. Barber is advising clients with planning for long-term care, determining eligibility for government benefits and navigating the Medicaid process with planning and preparation of applications for community and nursing home coverage. 

Prior to becoming an attorney, Mr. Barber worked for over two decades as a business development executive with IBM and was directly responsible for developing relationships with many of IBM’s largest global clients and providing support in solving complex business challenges with IBM solutions.  

Outside of the law, Mr. Barber’s interests include playing guitar, listening to live music, golf, and enjoying time with his wife and two daughters in Huntington, N.Y. where they reside.
